Ski Trip 2020 New Hampshire (Bretton Woods/Cannon Mountains)
Posted on: May 11th 2020During February half-term break, students from Southgate school enjoyed a thrilling and exhausting week of skiing in New Hampshire, USA. Conditions were outstanding and locals were delighted by the tremendous snowfall. The powdery snow made it a physically tiring week for our students, but they prevailed nevertheless. Every day was filled with five hours of swoosh and swish; perfecting parallel turns, carving or just falling over…we even encountered a snow blizzard on day three!
As the days skiing sessions finished, we would recuperate and recharge for the next day. The hotel provided our own personal swimming pool to use, which gave endless entertainment. The evenings were just as fun as the days, with students taking part in night tubbing, a movie night at the local cinema and spectating a local university basketball game (Thank you to Plymouth State University for having us).
All students made excellent progress, finishing every single day with beaming smiles, laughing about the biggest fall or best wipe out.
My reflection on the week is one of great pride, firstly in the students who made excellent progress from absolute beginners to confidents skiers and secondly in the amount of inspirational and fearless attitudes that were shown during the week. Lastly to the staff who made it possible, from giving up their free time, to making sure students had fun and were safe throughout the trip.
