Former A Level PE student Alex Savva returns to Southgate School
Posted on: June 26th 2016A group of Year 10 GCSE PE students and the Year 12 A Level PE set were very grateful to have the chance to work closely with a real expert in the field of Sports Science this week. An hour of practical sessions on mobility and stability based warm ups and also speed and agility mechanics pushed the students to their limits.
This expert was former Southgate Sixth Form student, Alex Savva.
Since leaving school, Alex has gone from success to success in his chosen field. His three ‘A’ grades at A level took him to Loughborough where he gained a First Class Honours Degree and following several years gaining experience as an intern with various high profile sports clubs, he moved to Los Angeles to work as Sports Science Manager with LA Galaxy.
Whilst at LA Galaxy, he worked on a daily basis with high profile players including Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keene and he was part of the team that won the MLS Cup in 2014, earning the team a visit to the White House to meet Barack Obama.
Indeed it was a conversation with Steven Gerrard that helped him to take the next step in his career. Alex was keen to return to the UK and Gerrard put him in touch with Liverpool John Moores University where he will now start his PhD. As part of this research work, he will be working daily with Liverpool FC and Jurgen Klopp!!
To complete his afternoon at Southgate, Alex spoke in an engaging manner with the recently returned Year 12 student body, outlining the importance of positive daily habits including staying hydrated, working hard, challenging yourself, sleeping well and having a Growth Mindset.
Having achieved all of his life goals at the age of 25 he has now been forced to recalibrate what he wants to achieve! He now wants to win the Premier League with an English football club and ultimately work for the England team. Who is to say that Alex Savva won’t achieve this?
