Welcome
I am delighted to introduce myself as Head of Sixth Form at Southgate School. Having worked at Southgate School for over ten years, I embrace the school’s vision of ambition and excellence, and I feel proud to lead a thriving Sixth Form.
My ambition for all Sixth Form students at Southgate School is that they leave us not only with the academic achievements they need for their next steps in life but also having had a rich and varied experience. With 23% of our students achieving A*-A grades in 2024, well above national average, we are already in a strong position in terms of our academic achievement, proving that Southgate School Sixth Form is a place of academic excellence. We continue to be proud of the ever-increasing number of students who obtained their first-choice courses at top Russell Group Universities.
We also currently offer a wide range of extracurricular activities for our students to get involved in, including the highly sought after Duke of Edinburgh Gold award, The EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and the Brilliant Club Scholars Programme. We have extended our subject specific enrichment opportunities as well as a variety of community based and Leadership and Mentoring opportunities. This year, we are launching a Co-Curriculum that will enable students to increase their knowledge of their subjects outside of the classroom. We want all of our students to be inquisitive and passionate about their learning both in and out of the classroom.
Our personal development programme gives guidance on careers, which is complemented by visits from outreach university teams who offer valuable advice and information to help students in their next steps. Part of the personal development programme also covers topics around Personal, Social, Health and Economic education to ensure all students have a rich and full experience as a student here.
The Sixth Form has a high-profile Student Leadership Team who will take on leadership opportunities with younger students and be given a range of opportunities to lead on whole school and community events, build their public speaking skills and mentor others. We also appoint Head Girl and Head Boy through the Sixth Form, which is a highly sought after and respected position within the school.
We, as a Sixth Form team, also understand the importance of the mental and emotional wellbeing of our students. Therefore, providing a supportive and safe working environment is paramount to us. We appreciate the pressure that comes with Sixth Form study as well as the personal pressures of growing up.
It is a privilege to be a part of Southgate School Sixth Form and I look forward to building on our successes and developing more opportunities for our students.
