Sixth Form Information

SOUTHGATE SCHOOL SIXTH FORM

Southgate School has one of the largest sixth forms in Enfield and North London.  The sixth form at Southgate School is an exciting and vibrant place to be, where challenging academic work goes hand in hand with opportunities to develop as young people, lead others and contribute to the school and wider community.

We offer a wide range of traditional and vocational subjects with flexibility to meet the varying needs of students academically and beyond your subject choices.

A Levels provide a traditional academic route. But we also offer vocational courses for our students.  Both routes are suitable preparation for university entry and employment.

Most of our Year 11 students choose Southgate School for post 16 education.  We have an exciting induction programme and all students take part in some form of voluntary enrichment.  Students are encouraged early on, to consider their future destinations and develop themselves in preparation for their chosen pathways, guided by our high quality Higher Education programme.  Over 85% of our students continue into Higher Education with a number of students being selected for some of the top universities in the country.  There is also a programme to support students who choose alternative routes and we take pride in the fact that all of our students leave Southgate School with a place at a university, college, apprenticeship or in employment.

Students are supported to develop personal study skills through the tutorial programme. This is delivered by the same tutor for the two years they spend in the Sixth Form at Southgate.  Form Tutors have the opportunity to get to know students and to take a special interest in their progress. Tutors gain an in-depth knowledge of individuals and provide pastoral support and guidance during the transition from GCSEs to University or Apprenticeships.  Tutors will hold whole group tutorial sessions and help students to be the best they can be in their studies and beyond.  We have regular reviews and formal assessment to ensure students and parents are informed of progress. Assemblies continue to expand understanding and challenge students to aspire to achieve excellence personally and through a deeper awareness of important issues in the world around them.

We are very grateful that we can offer sixth form students a state of the art Sixth Form Study Centre and newly refurbished café/common area. All students have access to a quiet environment in which to study as well as a relaxed setting where they can work in groups or rest between lessons with refreshments.

At Southgate School, we are proud of the academic success of our students who consistently gain excellent results on our post-16 courses.  We rigorously monitor the progress of all students to ensure they achieve their full potential, not only academically but with the skills and character they need to be confident, successful and responsible young people.
