Sakina is a qualified property solicitor who within the last three years has transitioned into school governance. She is a senior governance professional for a large multi academy trust, supporting over 15 schools across London with all aspects of school governance compliance and local governing body development and training. Sakina cares strongly that all young people regardless of their background should have access to a good education and are given the opportunity to flourish within their education. Sakina has lived in Southgate for over 15 years and is a proud member of the diverse community to which she belongs. 

I am currently responsible for leading a large team in sales, marketing and account management across the UK and Ireland Markets in the online travel industry.

I have more the 10 + years in sales marketing, business development and leadership roles in the hospitality industry, I have expertise in helping business in the industry improve online and technology backgrounds and truly believe that travel can be a source of good and peace, allowing people explore different cultures and destinations. Personally, I have experience, having worked in the United Arab Emirates as well and setting up market management team in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh.

I graduated doing Chemistry and have also been passionate about education particularly as my final year project was focused on how to bring fun back to Chemistry. Having mentored children through mentorship works and recently becoming a dad, I hope to use my knowledge and skills to assist the school.

I am born and raised in Rugby, Warwickshire, however my professional life has seen me call Enfield my home, having lived in Southgate and now in Gordon Hill over the last 2.5 years.

Ashton Hussain is an experienced Project Manager with over 10 years' experience delivering complex transformation, technology and infrastructure projects across both the public and private sectors. He has worked within education, financial services and professional membership organisations, leading large-scale programmes involving digital transformation, cyber security, cloud technologies, estates and capital projects, governance and organisational change. 

Previously, Ashton spent five years with Lift Schools (formerly Academies Enterprise Trust), where he supported a network of 57 schools, delivering projects that improved technology, security, infrastructure and operational efficiency for more than 40,000 staff and students. This experience gave him a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing schools and multi-academy trusts. 

As a Governor at Southgate School, Ashton is passionate about supporting the school's continued success by contributing his expertise in strategic planning, governance, risk management, financial oversight and continuous improvement. He is committed to working collaboratively with school leaders and fellow governors to help ensure the best possible outcomes for every pupil.

I am a primary school teacher with a passion for helping children flourish, develop confidence and reach their full potential. Before moving into education, I worked in the legal sector, having completed an LLB and LLM (LPC). I later followed my interest in teaching, gaining a PGCE with QTS, and have never looked back.

I am delighted to be joining the governing body at Southgate School. As both an educator and someone with a legal background, I hope to bring a thoughtful perspective to governance while supporting the school in continuing to provide outstanding opportunities and outcomes for its pupils, as it has done for many years.

I also have strong connections to the local area. Friends of mine attended Southgate School, and I spent many of my childhood years playing hockey at Southgate Hockey Club. Sport has always been a significant part of my life. Growing up, I played hockey and netball at county level and was fortunate to represent Southeast England in hockey. The values I learnt through sport continue to shape both my professional and personal life.

Outside of work, I love travelling, discovering new restaurants, and going to the theatre. I am also an Arsenal fan and love spending time with family and friends. I enthusiastically enjoy cooking, although the results don't always quite match the ambition and my friends are encouraging me to find a new hobby!

I am  a Public Financial Account and work for an engineering consultancy provided support across a range of clients, mainly in the public sector. I have worked across all levels of government, from local authorities and health bodies, blue light services and also central government departments providing a wide range of consultancy services.  

Within Enfield, I am also a Cub Scout leader and Group Treasurer, helping to develop our young people.

I have three children, one of whom attends Southgate School.  I grew up and went to school in London before studying Maths & Philosophy at university.  I am a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and work as an audit partner in London.   I enjoy running and am an Arsenal fan.  

I have lived in the Palmers Green/Southgate area since birth and went to school in Enfield.

I am a career detective with the Metropolitan Police, having joined in 2002 currently in the Anti-Corruption Command. I spent the past 13 years in Counter Terrorism in The National Digital Exploitation Service. This involved advising on personal and online security for Cabinet Ministers and covert investigations into terror suspects. I am a qualified trainer and deliver courses for the Home Office in Open Source and Social Media Intelligence, Dark Net and Crypto-Currency Investigation

In 2017 I set up a Human Intelligence Unit for Barclays Bank Chief Security Office proactively targeting online fraud before returning to the Met Police.

I have also spent 3 years in Child Protection running covert investigations into online child abusers and 4 years in the Guns and Gangs Unit in Hackney. I have considerable experience in youth criminality and social media involvement in crime.

Prior to joining the police, I was an Equities Trader in the City of London and Hungary.

Miss Martinique Vella-Baldacchino is a senior Orthopaedic Registrar on the North West London Rotation. She recently completed her PhD at Imperial College London, focusing on improving outcomes following patellofemoral joint replacement surgery.

Martinique is passionate about education, personal development, and supporting young people to achieve their full potential. She strongly believes in striving for excellence, resilience, and creating opportunities for others to grow and succeed. Throughout her academic and clinical career, she has demonstrated a commitment to high standards, continuous improvement, and collaborative leadership.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys public speaking through Toastmasters, hiking in the mountains with her husband, including several multi-day expeditions without internet access, playing padel, and engaging with people from diverse backgrounds. She is also a keen follower of foreign affairs and international current events.

I have been teaching for 21 years and held the role of Head of the Drama Department for 14 years.  I graduated with a degree in Drama and English, after which I gained experience working backstage for ‘We Will Rock You’ in the wardrobe department and ‘Blood Brothers’ in the props department as well as working for the music company KPM who create music for film.

I decided to become a Drama teacher as the skills that the subject gives to the students are invaluable.  The development of confidence alone transfers to so many other areas of the student’s life.  Being in a safe environment where you are encouraged to be creative, problem solve, work in a team and knowing that it is ok to make mistakes as something wonderful usually develops from it gives so much power and ownership to the students.  Seeing the progress and transformation that student’s go through from learning these skills is truly the highlight of my job.

I lead a very successful team in the Drama department, our set of GCSE and A level results are consistently strong with students making positive progress; many of whom have successful careers in the theatre, film and television industry.  We pride ourselves on providing various enrichment activities such as the whole school show where we work with the Music department, the Old Vic Schools Club where students work with professionals in the field and Chickenshed Theatre Company where we work with the BA students.  These all contribute to creating a community feel and create strong bonds amongst the students across all year groups.
