Admissions Criteria

Southgate School Sixth Form Academic Entry Criteria

Please see our general admissions criteria on our website that outlines how places are allocated after the academic entry criteria below are met.

A Level courses

A minimum of three passes at grade 6 or higher and two at grade 5 or higher. Within these passes there must be a grade 5 or higher in both English Language and Maths GCSEs.

A level Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy & Ethics, Government & Politics, Business and Economics adhere to the generic criteria above.

Some subjects require you to have studied the subject at GCSE and have an additional compulsory admission requirement as set out in the table below. 

For A level Art, Photography and Product Design, a portfolio must be provided and entry to the course is at the discretion of the relevant Head of Department.

Geography

6 in GCSE geography

History

6 in GCSE history

Mathematics

7 in GCSE maths

Music

6 in GCSE music

PE

5 in GCSE PE or combined science or biology

Physics

6,6 in GCSE combined science or 6 in GCSE physics and 6 in GCSE maths

Spanish

6 in GCSE Spanish

 

Vocational courses

A minimum of six grades at 9-4 including grade 4 in both Maths and English Language GCSEs.
