BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care
This two-year course offered in the sixth form is of the same size, rigour and performance points as one A’ Level.
The course consists of three mandatory units and one optional unit. The mandatory units are:
- Unit 1 - Human Lifespan Development. This covers human development across all the life stages and the factors that can affect development and wellbeing
- Unit 2 - Working in Health and Social Care. This unit looks at the wide range of professions within the health and social care sector and the roles and responsibilities of each profession
- Unit 5 - Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs – In this unit, the needs of an individual are identified as well as the professionals who can help meet these needs.
Options units:
Sociological Perspectives, Psychological Perspectives, Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs, or Physiological Disorders and their Care
This course counts towards the UCAS points in order to apply to university.
Many universities run degree courses that involve Health & Social Care, such as medicine, teacher training, environmental science, physiotherapy, mental health, health & wellbeing, nursing, midwifery and social work.
Studying this subject can also lead into an apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities in the Health and Social Care sector covering a wide range of job roles adult or child social care, health care in the NHS or the private sector, nursery nursing or working in the voluntary sector.
