London Youth Games 2017

RE: Southgate School Volleyball Players at the London Youth Games 2017
The London Youth Games Volleyball competition was held at UEL last Sunday and I'm pleased to say that Southgate School was very well represented !
Biggest success on the day was Enfield boys' team who defeated last year's winners Wandsworth in the final, having lost a close match to them in the first pool game of the day. This is the first time that Enfield have ever won this title.
England Junior player Sam Marsh and Oliver Heath were starting players for the team (and played the whole of the final !) whilst Ange Dougan came on during the day as a sub.
The Enfield girls' team had only 6 players so everyone played every point of the 3 pool matches they had. Southgate School were represented by Yasmin Daly (team captain) and Beril Celikturk. The girls were unlucky to be in a very strong pool and considering it was the first time they had played together, they did very well to just lose the first 2 games 25-21 and the third 25-15.
The final Southgate School student who played at the tournament was Daniel Cordell who did an excellent job in helping Barnet boys' team to 9th place.
One last Southgate School student who was involved on Sunday and deserves a special mention is Aidan Daly. Aidan, having previously played for Enfield in this tournament but being too old this year, coached the Barnet boys' team throughout the tournament and then assisted former club member Robert Poole with coaching eventual winners Enfield boys team. Aidan also managed to persuade his mum to be Barnet's manager for the day !
Probably the best part for Southgate School is that ALL of those players who played on Sunday are still eligible to play next year with Daniel and Beril eligible for a further 2 or even 3 years !
On a final note, I would like to reiterate my thanks to you and Nick Robinson for the continued support that you have given to us these past few years. Without this, we could not have developed into the successful junior volleyball club we have done. There were 40 VK SOUTHGATE SATELLITE CLUB PLAYERS taking part in the competition on Sunday across 6 teams from 4 London boroughs, as well as Aidan and Robert coaching - a phenomenal figure and a true measure of the success of this project !
