MLT intra-trust junior team mathematics challenge 2023
Posted on: June 22nd 2023Thursday 22nd June saw 12 of the best young mathematicians from Southgate School face off against The Compton School and Stopsley High School for the first Middlesex Learning Trust junior mathematics team challenge. The tournament was organised by our very own Saniya Chaudry, and hosted at Stopsley High School. The school squads were each split into 3 teams of 4 and competition was fierce over several rounds of increasing difficulty.
The format tested students' abilities to collaborate, work under pressure, and even their sprinting speed. In between rounds there was speed chess, intense tactics discussions and rehydration!
Scores were close, but ultimately Southgate School prevailed, coming 1st, 2nd and 4th in the team categories, and taking gold overall vs the other schools. All students conducted themselves impeccably and were a credit to their schools. A great day was had by all and the next fixture is being planned!â
